COVID-19 cases jump to 18,400 in Khulna division

KHULNA, Aug 28, 2020 (BSS) –The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has surged to 18,400 due to continuous rise in the daily number of lethal virus infections in recent weeks in all 10 districts of Khulna division.

“The number of patients climbed to 18,400 with 232 new infections was reported after testing 282 samples on Thursday at three COVID-19 Laboratories in the division,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS this noon.

Among the newly detected COVID-19 patients, 75 are in Jashore, 64 in Kushtia, 30 in Khulna, 22 in Jhenaidah, 19 in Chuadanga, 10 in Magura, six in Meherpur, three each in Bagerhat and Narail districts in the division, she said.

The health official further mentioned that all the positive cases for COVID-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 18,485 others are being monitored in isolation units in different hospitals under institutional supervision and 13,650 of them were released.

“The district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 5,536 are in Khulna, 3,140 in Jashore, 2,668 in Kushtia, 1,584 in Jhenaidah, 1,207 in Chuadanga, 1,133 in Narail, 990 in Satkhira, 876 in Bagerhat, 766 in Magura and 500 in Meherpur,” Dr. Ferdousi added.

“With the healing of 128 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 13,370 with the recovery rate of 72.67 percent in the division till this noon,” she said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 318 in the division with today’s seven more deaths reported from two each in Kushtia, Jhenaidah and one each in Chuadanga, Khulna and Magura.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 80 in Khulna, 60 in Kushtia, 38 in Jashore, 29 in Chuadanga, 25 in Jhenaidah, 27 in Satkhira, 20 in Bagerhat, 12 in Magura, 11 in Meherpur and 16 in Narail, she added.

“The average casualty rate among all 18,400 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” said Dr Rasheda.

Among the total coronavirus infected persons, 1,928 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 13,370 have recovered and 318 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division, she continued.
