JS committee meeting on shipping ministry held
DHAKA, Aug 27, 2020 (BSS) – The 23rd meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Shipping was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.
Chairman of the committee Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam presided over the meeting, said an official press release.
Committee members State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Ranjit Kumar Ray, Mahfujur Rahman, Dr. Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, Aslam Hossain Showdagar and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
The committee recommended to take necessary steps for expeditious disposal of the matter by setting up an inter-ministerial committee to expedite the removal of hazardous goods stored at Chattagram port and to amend the existing policy to make the law up-to-date, said the press release.
The meeting also discussed in detail about the project undertaken by the Chattagram Port Authority.
Committee Chairman Rafiqul Islam said the Matarbari development project is an important project. If this is established, the nation will be benefitted a lot and the capacity of the port will increase.
The committee recommended to the Chattagram Port Authority to expedite the work and complete the project expeditiously.
At the onset of the meeting, a deep condolence was expressed at the death of Sector Commander Major General (retd) Bir Uttam CR Dutta.
