Stocks end week extending winning streak

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2020 (BSS) – Stocks ended the week extending the gaining streak for third consecutive day as investors continued appetite for sector-wise large-cap issues getting confidence on regulator’s recent steps to restore discipline in the market.

At the premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the broad index, DSEX settled at 4873.17 points on Thursday, last working day of the Week, with a gain of 45.59 points or 0.94 percent.

Besides, two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went up by 11.04 points and 4.47 points to settle at 1690.10 points and 1130.61 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 188,217 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 272.75 million securities.

On the other hand, DSE’s turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 9.07 billion from Taka 7.83 billion in the previous session.

Gainers took lead over losers as out of 357 issues traded, 196 securities gained price while 111 declined and 50 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE increased to 3,696 billion which was Taka 3,674 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Desh Garments, Fine Foods, Information Services Network, Prime Textile, Northern Jute, Monno Staffler, National Life Insurance, Aman Cottonn, Sonali Ansh Industries and Pioneer Industries.

Orion Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Beximco Limited, Beximco Pharma, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Brac Bank, Grameenphone, BATBC, Square Pharma, IFIC and Express Insurance.

The top ten losers were Imam Button, Dulamia Cotton, Meghna Condensed Milk, Sun Life Insurance, Beacon Pharma, Vanguard AML Rupali Bank Balanced Fund, Progressive Life Insurance, Asia Insurance, EBL First Mutual Fund and Zahin Tex.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed trading at green extending the gaining streak in previous session.

CSCX and CASPI rose by 87 points and 146.79 points to stand at 8384.94 points and 13873.02 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 10,617,482 shares and mutual funds of 283 companies were traded, of which 166 issues advanced while 75 declined and 42 issues remained unchanged.
