DHAKA, Aug 27, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today summoned the previous and the current investigation officers (IOs) in a case lodged over the alleged rape and murder of a Narayanganj schoolgirl, who later returned home alive and well.

A HC division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding hearing on a plea to file a revision case over the incident.

“The HC asked former IO police sub-inspector (SI) Shamim Al Mamun to appear before the court along with his written explanation on September 17. The court also ordered current IO Inspector Abdul Hai to appear with the case docket,” advocate Shishir Manir, who moved the plea before the court, told newsmen.

Deputy attorney general Sarwar Hossain Bappy argued for the state during the hearing.

The girl, a student of class five, went missing on July 4 and her father on August 6 filed an abduction case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on July 6. Police arrested three persons – Abdullah, Rakib and Khalil – who later confessed to raping, killing and subsequently dumping her body in river Shitalakkhya.

But the accused, while talking to their families repeatedly said they were innocent and were forced to confess the crime they did not commit.

In the meantime, on August 23, the girl returned home and said she had run away with her lover and started their family elsewhere after their wedding.
