288 upazilas come under cent percent electricity
DHAKA, Aug 27, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 288 upazilas will come under hundred percent electricity coverage as 31 more upazilas across the country have been brought under cent percent electricity.
A total of 257 upazilas have earlier been brought under hundred percent electricity coverage and 31 more upazilas including Faridganj and Kachua in Chandpur will get entire electricity coverage totaling the number 288 upazilas, said power division officials.
With the latest electricity coverage, as much as 97 per cent people across the country will come under the power facility as the present government is pledge bound to bring the entire nation under electricity coverage by 2021.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally announce the electricity coverage of 31 upazilas including the two upazilas of Chandpur district through video conference from her official Ganabhaban residence here today.
To ensure the hundred percent electricity coverage of 31 upazilas, the prime minister will inaugurate two power plants, 11 grid sub-stations and six new distribution lines.
Earlier, Chandpur Sadar, Haimchar, Haziganj, Shahrasti and Matlab Dakshin upzila have been come under hundred percent electricity coverage, but only Matlab Uttar upazila is yet to come under the facility.
The officials concerned expecting that the whole Chandpur will come under electricity coverage by October, this year as the electrification of two unions on the western side of the River Meghna is underway.
Lawmaker of Chandpur-4 Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Chandpur, local Awami League leaders and power division officials will join the programme.
