After assassination of Bangabandhu, Mushtaq-Zia imprisoned conscience of nation: Quader

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Mushtaq-Zia clique imprisoned the conscience of the nation through abuse of power.

“After the assassination of Bangabandhu, the ghost of the Mushtaq-Zia clique, who seized power illegally, has pushed the country backward. They became crazy to build the country on the ideology of Pakistan. They imprisoned the nation’s conscience through abuse of power,” he said.

The minister said this while addressing a discussion marking the National Mourning Day organized by the Jatiya Sramik League at Bangabandhu Avenue.

Quader joined the discussion through video conference from his official residence.

Turning down the criticism of BNP secretary general over the government’s foreign policy, Quader questioned whether there was any foreign policy during the tenures of BNP and also under the BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

The moral words of those who occupy power illegitimately and use state power for their own benefit are not acceptable, he added.

He said Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina has been leading the government efficiently pursuing visionary policy. “Bangabandhu laid this foundation of the Bangladesh’s foreign policy,” he added.

Quader said Mirza Fakhrul Islam did not understand the real issue that Bangladesh is not a stakeholder in the Rohingya issue.

“Myanmar and the Rohingya community are on the side of the Rohingya issue. The government had given shelter to the Rohingya people considering the humanitarian aspect of the people of Bangladesh towards the Rohingya people for the incident that took place in Rakhine State of Myanmar,” he added.

The minister said the Bangladesh government is holding bilateral, tripartite and multilateral talks to find a sustainable solution to the Rohingya repatriation.

“Efforts are being made by the Bangladesh Government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina to find a sustainable solution to this problem through multilateral talks,” he added.

Awami League presidium members Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, labor affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj and Sramik League general secretary Azam Khasru also spoke at the meeting.

Sramik League president Fazlul Haque Montu presided over the meeting.
