BMDA takes step to plant 31,000 saplings in greater Rangpur

GAIBANDHA, Aug 26, 2020 (BSS) – Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), Rangpur Circle office has taken up step to plant saplings of different varieties in greater Rangpur division.

The saplings of wood, fruit bearing and medicinal would be planted through best uses of surface water and conservation of rain water project involving Taka 250 crore.

Under the project a total of 31,000 saplings of different varieties would be planted on the sides of the road connecting from district headquarters to upazila headquarters and from upazila headquarters to union parishad complex, said an official of BMDA.

Besides, 3500 saplings were distributed to the farmers of 35 upazilas under the circle to plant those on the sides of the road of the upazilas, open spaces and the surroundings of the homesteads marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the official said.

On August 18, Chairman of BMDA Dr Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury formally inaugurated the tree plantation program of the project at char Erendabari under Fulchhari upazila in Gaibandha district and project director Habibur Rahman Khan and executive engineer of BMDA, Gaibandha zone Azadul Haque were present.

Talking to BSS Habibur Rahman said apart from it khas pond, canal and water bodies would also be re-excavated to boost production of agri crops including paddy to ensure food security in Rangpur division under the activities of the project designed for 5 years.

The massive work of the project would start at the end of the current year, he said.
