400 farmers get agri support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 26, 2020 (BSS) – Around 400 grassroots farmers were given different kinds of agricultural goods, equipment and cash so that they can recoup their losses being caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

On behalf of its project titled ‘Smallholder Adaptive Farming and Biodiversity Network (SAFBIN)’, Caritas Rajshahi Region disbursed the support among the farming households of eight villages in Huzripara Union in Paba Upazila free of cost recently.

Mail goal of the project is to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture in South Asia.

Each of 59 farmers both male and female got 46 duck chicks, while 57 others received 264 kilograms native fowl and 18 farmers Taka 50,100 for small business.

Besides, 218 farmers were given Taka 3,70,140 for transplanted aman paddy farming and eight other farmers Taka 17,610 for fish farming.

Apart from this, 360 farming families get 240 spades, 24 charger spray machines, 70 showers and two charger vans.

Abul Bashar Molla, Research and Advocacy Officer of South Asia Environmental Capacity Building – Agricultural and Water Pollution, an allied project of SAFBIN, said that they are working to make sure the small holder farmers are able to increase their food security by doubling their farm production and income.

In addition to providing the support, the Small farm households are being imparted training and motivation so that they have and apply improved capacities to consume a balanced diet.

Besides, their level of confidence is being elevated through multidimensional interventions so that they can enhance land tenure security and access to water, seed, entitlements and knowledge on small farming.
