Testimonies of PW’s ends in blogger Wasikur murder trial

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2020 (BSS) – Recording depositions of prosecution witnesses (PWs) have finally ended in the case lodged over the murder of blogger Wasikur Rahman Babu.

Former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Police Station and then recording officer of the case Md Salauddin testified at Dhaka third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court as 24th witness and was cross-examined afterwards.

Judge Robiul Alam later adjourned the hearing till September 10. The court is scheduled to start examining defence witnesses on that day.

Wasikur was murdered on his way to office from his Tejgaon Begunbari house on March 30, 2015.

Police with the help of locals managed to detain two killers Zikrullah and Ariful Islam from the spot. Three machetes were recovered from their possession at that time.

Wasikur’s brother-in-law Monir Hossain on that day filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station and the detainees were later shown arrested in the case.

On September 1, 2015, Detective Branch (DB) of police filed chargesheet against five members — Zikrullah, Ariful Islam, Saiful Islam, Hasib Abdullah and Abu Taher Zunayed– of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

On July 20, 2016, the court framed charges against the accused.
