COVID-19 cases reach 17,358, recover 12,430 in Khulna division

KHULNA, Aug 24, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 132 more positive cases in the last 24 hours till this noon, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division has surged to 17,358, said an official release here today.

“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the past 24 hours till this noon and 132 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS.

Among the newly detected COVID-19 patients 46 are in Jashore, 33 in Khulna, 17 in Magura, 13 in Kustia, 10 in Chuadanga, 10 in Satkhira and two in Bagerhat and one in Narail districts, the health official said.

“Among the total 17,358 patients, 5,395 are in Khulna, 2,895 in Jashore, 2,488 in Kushtia, 1,414 in Jhenaidah, 1,118 in Chuadanga, 1,102 in Narail, 945 in Satkhira, 851 in Bagerhat, 743 in Magura and 407 in Meherpur districts,” she said.

“With the healing of 268 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,430 with the recovery rate of 71.61 percent in the division till this noon,” she added.

“Among the total coronavirus infected persons in the division, 1,831 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 12,430 have recovered and 297 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes,” Dr. Ferdousi continued.

The total number of fatalities now stands at 297 in the division with today’s six more deaths.

“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities remains at 76 in Khulna, 55 in Kushtia, 36 in Jashore, 27 in Satkhira, 22 in Jhenaidah, 26 in Chuadanga, 18 in Bagerhat, 16 in Narail, 11 in Magura and 10 in Meherpur in the division,” she said.

Currently, the fatality rate among the total 17,358 COVID-19 patients stands at a little over 1.71 percent in the division.
