KHULNA, Aug 24, 2020(BSS) -Khulna City Corporati on (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said Bangladesh’s first military ruler Ziaur Rahman and traitor Khandaker Mushtaque Ahmed were directly involved in the killing of Bangabandhu.

“The vested quarters have began the plot led by Ziaur Rahman and Khandaker Mushtaque when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called upon the second revolution and has taken epoch-making steps for economic development to move the war-torn country forward,” he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest on Sunday afternoon.

Sheikh Sohel Oxygen Bank and Rotary Club of Khulna Paragon organised the meeting at Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) auditorium in the city marking the National Mourning Day and 45th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The meeting began after paying tributes to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait and ended through a doa mahfil seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his other family members, who faced martyrdom on the fateful August 15 in 1975.

The mayor said Zia became the main beneficiary of the carnage as he simultaneously emerged as the president and army chief after Khandaker Moshtaque Ahmed’s ouster from power while convicted killers Farook and Rashid in their interviews to the BBC described his involvement in the plot.

He also said that Khaleda Zia staged the August 21, 2004 barbaric grenade attack on an anti-terrorism rally of the Awami League to make the party bankrupt in leadership following her husband’s footsteps.

“The main purpose of the heinous crime was to foil the goal for which Bangladesh was liberated,” said Khaleque, the president of city Awami League.

Panel Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad and Rotary Inter District 3281 Governor Chowdhury Md Raihan Farid presided over the meeting while Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University Professor Dr Md Fayequzzaman addressed as special guest.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by City AL general secretary MDA Babul Rana, Zila Parishad chief executive officer Md Asaduzzaman,KCC Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan and Paragon President Rotarian Biswajit Dey Mithu.
