500 more helpless families get foodstuffs in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 24, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRC) has provided foodstuffs to 500 more jobless and other helpless families to mitigate their livelihood related difficulties being caused by the global novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Each of the families was given a food package containing 7.5 kilograms of rice and one kilogram of pulse, edible oil, salt, sugar and suji each.

BDRC’s Rajshahi city unit organized the programme of distributing humanitarian support at Rajshahi Collegiate School playground on Sunday through maintaining social distancing and other protective measures to stem the coronavirus spreading.

President of the city unit and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by its unit vice-president Rejaul Karim and members Prof Mokbul Hossain, Prof Tanbirul Alam and Dr FMA Zahid distributed the support.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to cope with the present pandemic situation.

The government has been dispensing foodstuffs and cash money among the low-incoming and other hand-to-mouth families to mitigate their hardships being caused by the pandemic.

Earlier, the unit provided similar types of food packages to 2,500 distressed families amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
