COVID-19 cases reach 17,226, recover 12,162 in Khulna division

KHULNA, Aug 23, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 177 more positive cases in the last 24 hours till this noon, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division has surged to 17,226, said an official release here today.

“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon and 177 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS.

Among the newly detected COVID-19 patients, 80 are in Jashore, 55 in Khulna, 23 in Narail, 10 in Satkhira and nine in Bagerhat districts, the health official said.

“Among the total 17,226 patients, 5,362 are in Khulna, 2,849 in Jashore, 2,475 in Kushtia, 1,414 in Jhenaidah, 1,108 in Chuadanga, 1,101 in Narail, 935 in Satkhira, 849 in Bagerhat, 726 in Magura and 407 in Meherpur districts,” she said.

“With the healing of 186 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,162 with the recovery rate of 70.60 percent in the division till this noon,” she added.

“Among the total coronavirus infected persons in the division, 1,813 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 12,162 have recovered and 291 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes,” Dr. Ferdousi mentioned.

The total number of fatalities now stands at 291 in the division while no more death cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities remains at 75 in Khulna, 52 in Kushtia, 36 in Jashore, 26 in Satkhira, 22 in Jhenaidah, 25 in Chuadanga, 18 in Bagerhat, 16 in Narail, 11 in Magura and 10 in Meherpur in the division,” she continued.

Currently, the fatality rate among the total 17,226 COVID-19 patients stands at a little over 1.68 percent in the division.
