Social support for distressed people stressed

RAJSHAHI, June 29, 2018 (BSS)- Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi today
unequivocally called for boosting humanitarian works to improve the living
and livelihood condition of the society’s disadvantaged and underprivileged
people.

Terming them as integral part of the society, they observed that there
should be social and political initiatives for mainstreaming them.

Affluent persons should extend their cooperation to this end. They also
stressed on the need for revival of the traditional practice of philanthropy
for the well-being of mankind.

They made this observation while distributing cash among some poor and
distressed people.

Manab Seba Ovijan (MSO), a voluntary socio-economic development
organisation, organised the meeting to mark of its annual service programme
at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city.

On the occasion, 63 poor but meritorious students were given financial
support worth Taka 1.76 lakh, 22 challenged people Taka 55,000 and 66
patients suffering from various chronic diseases Taka 1.54 lakh as grants.

Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Abul Kalam
Azad and its Additional Chief Engineer Abdul Malek Sarker and Superintending
Engineer Sushankar Chandra Acharya addressed the meeting as guests of honour.

Chaired by MSO President Prof Shafiqunnabi Samadi, the meeting was
addressed, among others, by Principal of Rajshahi Government Women Degree
College Prof Syeda Nilufar Ferdous and Deputy Director of Department of
Social Services Rashedul Kabir.

The discussants mentioned that concerted efforts are very important for
overall development of the society as the country as well.
