5th span of Padma Bridge installed, 750 meters now visible

MUNSHIGANJ, June 29, 2018 (BSS) – The fifth span of the much-waited Padma
Bridge was installed today making around 750 meters of the bridge visible.

The span was placed on the pillar 41 and 42 of the bridge near Janzira
point in Shariatpur around 1:00pm.

Construction of nine pillars — 3, 4, 5 at the Mawa end and 37, 38, 39, 40,
41 and 42 at the Janzira end of river — have already been completed.

It is expected that the capital city will be directly connected with 21
southern districts of the country through road and railways after the
completion of the bridge.

The first span of the bridge was laid on pillars 37 and 38 on September
30, 2017 making visible some 150 meters of the bridge. The second span was
placed on January 28, 2018 on pillars 38 and 39. The third span was laid on
March 11 on pillars 39 and 40 while the fourth was placed on May 13 on
pillars 40 and 41 the same year.

The construction work on the country’s largest bridge started in December,
2015.

The 6.15-km bridge will have a total of 41 spans. Each of the span is 150
meters long.

According to the engineers concerned, a total of 41 spans will be
installed on 42 concrete pillars.
