GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Aug 21, 2020 (BSS/AFP) – Mexican authorities said
Thursday they had rescued eight people who had been kidnapped, including one
who had several fingers cut off, after an intense shootout in the city of
Guadalajara.

Another abductee was found dead and three men were arrested after the raid
on a house in a suburb of the capital of Jalisco state, prosecutor Gerardo
Octavio Solis Gomez told reporters.

High-powered firearms, bulletproof vests and communication radios were
found inside.

Kidnappings and gang-related violence are common in Mexico.

Between January to June this year, more than 11,400 people were kidnapped
across the country, including around 600 in Jalisco state, according to the
government.

The area is home to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which as
well as drug trafficking is accused of kidnapping and extortion.
