Pranab Mukherjee’s condition worsens with lung infection: Hospital

NEW DELHI, Aug 19, 2020 (BSS) – The medical condition of former President of India and veteran politician Pranab Mukherjee deteriorated today as he has developed a lung infection.

“There has been a decline in the medical condition of Hon’ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee as he has developed features of lung infection,” said the Army Research and Referral Hospital in a statement today.

The statement, however, said that the 84-year ex-president “continues to be on ventilator support and is currently being managed by a team of specialists”.

The hospital’s statement came hours after Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee tweeted that his father was “stable and his vital parameters continue to remain under control and manageable”.

“With All Your good wishes and sincere efforts of the doctors, my father is stable now! His vital parameters continue to remain under control and manageable! Positive sign of his improvement is noticed! I request you all to pray for his speedy recovery,” he tweeted.

The ex-president, who tested positive for coronavirus, has been in the hospital in Delhi since he underwent a surgery to remove a clot in his brain last week. Pranab Mukherjee, the 13th president of India from 2012 to 2017, was admitted to the hospital on August 10.
