Car bomb explosion kills 4 pro-Turkey rebels in N Syria

DAMASCUS, Aug 18, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – Four Turkey-backed Syrian rebels were killed on Tuesday by the blast of a car bomb in the northern province of Raqqa, a war monitor reported.

The car bomb ripped through a checkpoint manned by Turkey-backed rebels in the area of Tal Abiad in the northern countryside of Raqqa province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Some injuries were reported among civilians in the area, said the UK-based watchdog group.

The explosion is the latest in a series of operations against the Turkey-backed rebels in northern Syria.

On Aug. 14, a landmine tore through a group of rebels in the Tal Tamr area in the Hasakah province in northeastern Syria, killing two rebels.

Turkey and allied Syrian rebels captured several areas in northern and northeastern Syria after battles with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in October of 2019.

Since then, several bombings have taken place amid a state of lawlessness in Turkey-held areas in northern Syria.
