BNP has proved itself as a party of killers : Hasan

DHAKA, Aug 16, 2020 (BSS)- Coming down heavily on BNP for its activities, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said they (BNP) have proved itself as the party of killers by celebrating the fake birthday of Begum Zia in the name of organising prayers for her recovery on August 15, the martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation and most of his family members.

“They (BNP) earlier declared that they would not celebrate the fake birthday of Begum Zia on August 15. On August 15, the day when the crimes against humanity were committed and the whole nation organised milads for the eternal peace of departed souls of Bangabandhu and most of his family members, BNP organized a milad for recovery of Begum Zia,” he regretted.

The information minister made the comments while addressing a discussion and a film show, organized by the Information Ministry at the Tathyo Bhaban in city’s Kakrail area with Information Secretary Kamrun Nahar in the chair.

Hasan said BNP virtually celebrated the fake birthday of Begum Zia in the name of milad for her recovery and they felt shame to say it publicly due to the pressure of the people. “Why you didn’t organize the birthday on August 14, or 12 or 16? This has been proved that not only Zia was involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu, but also Khaleda Zia also agreed to it and their party is the party of the killers,” he added.

The information minister said Begum Zia would be disqualified to be a lawmaker or to do politics if such incident of showing different dates of birth would be made in any European country. Even, criminal cases would be lodged against her, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said there are many dates of birth of Begum Zia- one date of birth has been mentioned in Begum Zia’s passport, another date in her marriage registrar, a different date of birth when she was first sworn in as the prime minister in 1991 and another date in her educational certificates.

But, he said, one day in 1995 Mannan Bhuiyan declared that Begum Khaleda Zia was born on August 15, which was published in newspapers. “Since then, they cut cake on that date. I don’t know how many birth dates can a person have,” he questioned.

Paying rich tribute to the Father of the Nation and most of his family members who were brutally assassinated on the fateful night of August 15, 1975, the information minister said the killers tried to destroy a newly independent country through killing Bangabandhu.

He said congratulatory messages came from Pakistan immediately after the killing of Bangabandhu. Even, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto told that a big change would take place in this region on August 11 or 12, which meant that they (killers) had communications with Pakistani establishments, he added.

The incidents like rejoicing by Pakistan over the massacre, attempts to form confederation with Pakistan, change the national flag of Bangladesh and also national anthem have proved that Bangabandhu was assassinated with the aim of destroying a newly independent state, said Hasan.

He said Ziaur Rahman was actively involved in this killing mission which has been proved not only in the captain Majed’s statement, but also in the Colonel Farooq’s interviews with televisions abroad. “And the biggest proof is that he (Ziaur Rahman) had established the killers of Bangabandhu by giving them jobs in Bangladesh missions abroad. Even, he (Zia) arranged foreign trips for the killers with their female friends who were not married,” he added.

Later, Hasan said, Ziaur Rahman had passed the indemnity ordinance in parliament to block the way of trial by giving legitimacy to the Bangabandhu murder. “So, it is needed to unmask the kingpins who were behind the scene and the persons who wrote columns hailing the killing of Bangabandhu to let the new generation know the real history,” he added.

For this, the information minister said, a demand has been raised to form a commission to unmask the plotters who were behind the scene.

Principal Information Officer Surath Kumar Sarker, Additional Secretary Jahanara Parvin and Department of Films and Publications Director General SM Golam Kibria, among others, addressed the meeting.

Later, a documentary titled ‘Swadhinata Ki Kore Amader Holo’ was screened.

After the programme, the information minister inaugurated Bangabandhu Pradorshoni Gallery and Museum on the 12th floor of the building and unveiled the nameplate of the exhibition and sales centre of the organization on first floor.
