Gaibandha Hindu Religious Welfare Trust observes National Mourning Day

GAIBANDHA Aug 16, 2020 (BSS) – Hindu Religious Welfare Trust (HRWT) observed the National Mourning Day and the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here yesterday with due respect and honor.

Marking the day, HRWT chalked out elaborate programmes including placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and special munajat.

Besides, HRWT organized a discussion meeting on life and works of Bangabandhu on the premises of V-Aid Road Kalibari Naat Mondir of the town in cooperation with Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad (BPUP) district chapter

Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and police super Towhidul Islam and mayor of Gaibandha Pourashava Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, Sadar UNO Prasun Kumar Chakrabartee and president of Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikyo Parishad district unit principal Paresh Chandra Sarker were present at the event as special guests.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by president of BPUP district unit Ranajit Kumar Bakshi Surya, general secretary Dipak Kumar Paul, organizing secretary of the unit Chanchal Kumar Saha, president of BPUP, Sadar upazila unit Suzon Prosad and general secretary of the unit Rocky Dev.

Earlier, a welcome speech was delivered by assistant director of the HRWT Md Hamidur Rahman.

The speakers said the August 15, 1975 is regarded as a shameful chapter in the history of Bengali nation as on this day the undisputed leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members were brutally assassinated at his own residence by a group of disgruntled army officers. Bangabandhu’s two daughters Sheikh Hasina (now Prime Minister) and Sheikh Rehana survived as they were abroad at that time

Later, a special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other family members.

A large number of people including hindu religious leaders, town elite and invited persons attended the programmes.
