ICMAB organizes ‘doa mahfil’, webinar on Mourning Day

DHAKA, Aug 16, 2020 (BSS) – The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) observed the National Mourning Day yesterday (Saturday) through holding a ‘doa mahfil’ and virtual discussion on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The national flag was hoisted half-mast while ‘doa mahfil’ was arranged after the Asr prayers at the Dhaka Branch Council floor of the Institute.

ICMAB’s President, office-bearers, Past Presidents, Council Members and a large number of members of the Institute attended the ‘Doa Mahfil’ physically and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his family members and other martyrs of August 15, 1975.

Prime Minister’s Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman attended the webinar discussion as the chief guest while Professor, Bangabandu Chair and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman and Shabnam Jahan, MP, attended the program as special guests.

Dr. Mashiur Rahman highlighted Bangabandhu’s life and works and economic vision to build a poverty and hunger-free happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

Mentioning that Bangabandhu had always carried out his dream for the country’s people, Mashiur said after the end of British era in the sub-continent and the formation of Pakistan, Bangabandhu had realized very quickly that Bengali people are still oppressed like they were before.

“His (Bangabandhu’s) struggle for people never stopped. He lost his studentship of Dhaka University fighting for the rights of the 4th class staffs of the University,” Mashiur said, adding that Bangabandhu never cared for any post or power, rather all he wanted was the independence of people.

Dr Atiur Rahman said that Bangabandhu was the greatest leader who also had the great skill of creating leaders. “He (Bangabandhu) built this entire nation from a null situation. We had nothing after independence, no money, no food, no roads, infrastructure, education,” he added.

The former central bank governor said the oppression of the West Pakistanis was so cruel and cunning that their per capita income was 61 percent higher than the Bengalees in1970. “In such a condition, Bangabandhu started his journey to build this country and today we are standing in a great position, which is by all means his gift to us,” he added.

AKM Delwer Hussain FCMA, Chairman of ICMAB Seminar & Conference Committee and Vice President of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) gave the Welcome speech.

Abu Sayed Md. Shaykhul Islam, Past President of the Institute and present Council Member and member of the Public Sector Financial Management Committee of Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) moderated the entire program.

ICMAB President Md. Jasim Uddin Akand, FCMA, presided over the discussion meeting. He said that cost and management accountants would work hard for making ‘Sonar Bangla’ which was Bangabandhu’s dream.

ICMAB Secretary Md. Munirul Islam FCMA gave the vote of thanks.
