MOURNING-DAY-KHULNA
National Mourning Day observed in Khulna
KHULNA, Aug 15, 2020 (BSS) – The National Mourning Day and the 45th martyrdom
anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was
observed here today with due respect and solemnity.
Khulna City and District units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-
organisations and different other political parties organized various programmes
marking the day.
The day’s programme began through hoisting of national flag at half mast atop
all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.
At least three people from each government, semi-government and organisations
placed wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu on Khulna Betar premises this
morning maintaining social distance.
Mourning rally has been cancelled while cybernetic discussion meetings and doa
mahfils were held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Posters have been displayed at educational institutions and different
establishments and portraying of the life sketch of Bangabandhu and national
mourning day related publicity were arranged digitally during the mourning
month.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Freedom Fighters, Government high officials
and leaders of civil society, among others, placed wreaths at the potrait of
Bangabandhu.
Distribution of food among the destitute, screening of films on the life and
works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious
institutions were also held maintaining social distance.
Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, Hamd and Naat and poetry
recitation, discussions focusing the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman and national history were arranged in the educational
institutions and other places.
Khulna District Administration organised a discussion meeting while Directorate
of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, art, Hamd,
Naat and Poem recetation competitions and cheques among freedom fighters at
DC’s conference room.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain Howlader addressed the meeting
as chief guest while deputy commissioner Md. Helal Hossain was in the chair.
Besides, Khulna district administration arranged the holy Quran recitation 2,075
times and distributed food and other goods to orphanages of different madrasas
and orphanages.
Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna District Information Office, Press
Information Department (PID), Islamic Foundation, Khulna WASA, OZOPADICO,
Sundarban Gas Company Ltd, Khulna Betar, Khulna Civil Surgeon Office, Khulna
University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna
Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Swadhinata Sangbadik
(Journalists) Forum, Mongla Port Authority (MPA), Deputy Inspector General of
Police (DIG) of Khulna Range, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and other
organisations observed the same programme separately marking the day maintaining
social distance.The organisations also planted tree saplings marking the day.
The city and district units of Awami League and its front organisations also
observed various programmes marking the day here and upazila headquarters in a
befitting manner.
The programmes included hoisting of national flags and black flags at half-mast
atop all the party offices in the city and district, wearing of black badges,
placing wreaths at the potrait of Bangabandhu, distribution of food among the
distressed people, milad mahfil and discussion meetings on life and works of
Bangabandhu maintaining social distance.
The upazila administrations also observed the day through similar programmes
throughout the nine upazilas in the district.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administration have
taken adequate measures to maintain law and order on the day.
