Tajul urges urban planners to help make cities public-friendly

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2020 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today urged urban planners, architects and engineers to work together to make the country’s cities, including Dhaka, welfare-oriented and public-friendly.

He made the call at a meeting on urban plans formulation at Hotel Intercontinental here, a ministry press release said.

The LGRD minister said there is no alternative to identifying urban problems aiming to make the country’s cities and towns attractive and livable for the future generation.

He said taking cooperation of experienced urban planners is urgent to do so.

Tajul called upon the urban planners to come up with specific plans in providing civic amenities to the city dwellers by identifying urban problems.

At the onset of the meeting, the minister conducted a munajat seeking the eternal peace of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others assassinated on August 15, 1975.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Gazipur City mayor Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Local Government Division senior secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, among others, spoke at the meeting.
