FIDE Online World Chess Olympiad begins tomorrow
DHAKA, Aug. 13, 2020 (BSS)- The pool ‘A’ matches of division-2 of the FIDE Online World Chess Olympiad begins tomorrow (Friday) with ten teams participating including Bangladesh.
The other nine countries of Pool ‘A’ are Philippines, Indonesia, Germany, Belarus, Belgium, Australia, Bulgaria, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The matches of Division ‘A’ will be held on August 14,15 and 16. The event will be held in the round robin league system and the top three teams will qualify for the top division.
Bangladesh will play against Germany tomorrow in the first round and meet Belarus and Belgium in second and third rounds respectively.
Bangladesh team: Dr. Shoeb Reaz Alam (captain) and IM Abu Sufian Shakil (reserve captain).
Players of open categories: GM Niaz Murshed, GM Reefat Bin Sattar, FM Md. Taibur Rahman and GM Ziaur Rahman.
Women’s categories: WIM Rani Hamid, WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin, WFM Nazrana Khan Eva and WCM Shamiha Sharmin Shimmi.
Open Under-20 Category: IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and CM Tahsin Tajwar Zia,
Girls’ Under-20 category: WCM Ahmed Walijah and WFM Noshin Anjum.
