5 arrested with foreign pistols, domestic weapons from Bhasantek
DHAKA, Aug 13, 2020 (BSS)- Members of the Tejgaon division Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested five people with foreign pistols and domestic weapons from the Bhasantek on Wednesday night.
The arrested are Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Rony, 30, Mohammad Monir Hossain Babu, 34, Mohammad Saiful Islam, 35, Mohammad Shahin Mia, 39 and Mohammad Sohel Rana, 31.
A foreign pistol and four knives were recovered from their custody at the time of the arrest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejgaon Division Md Shafiqul Islam told BSS that, on a atip off, the Tejgaon zonal team raided Bhasantek market on Wednesday and arrested them.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted to have gathered at the place for the purpose of terrorist activities and extortion at the time of the incident, said the official.
He also said that among the arrested, Md Rafiqul Islam Rony is a life sentence accused in a case with Pallabi police station.
Also, there are multiple cases against each of the arrested with different police stations with charges of terrorist activities.
The intelligence officer further said that the arrested persons were members of ‘Shahadat Bahini’, and were involved in terrorist activities in Mirpur and Pallabi areas for quite a long time.
A case has been filed against them with Bahantech police station in this regard, said the official.
