National booters to be retested for COVID-19 tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS)-All members of the national team including players, coaches and officials will be retested for COVID-19 tomorrow (Monday) in two separate medical institutions in the city.

The national team’s management committee took the decision after a total of eighteen players and an official among the twenty nine tested over the previous few days were found COVID-19 positive even though most of them had submitted negative reports prior to being tested at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University under the Bangladesh Football Federation’s (BFF) supervision.

The BFF medical committee’s officials also claimed that the confusion regarding the August 5’s test results — seven players and a coach — were eventually found Covid-19 positive on Friday last after the BFF announced them negative on Wednesday — happened due to ‘an error in communication stemming from a server related issue.

The main phase of the camp is scheduled to begin from August 22 at the Sarah Resort in Gazipur and the national team’s head coach Jamie Day is expected to arrive in Dhaka on August 16.

The English-born coach Day earlier called 36 players to join the camp at the Shara Resort in Gazipur but five players were not available to join from the beginning.

Finland-born defender Tariq Raihan Kazi and Denmark-born captain Jamal Bhuiyan are expected to join the camp on August 19 and 31 respectively.

The fixtures of Bangladesh of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Qatar 2022 will be held on October 8 and 13 and on November 12 and 17 and Bangladesh will play against Afghanistan, Qatar, India and Oman respectively on those dates.
