66pc lower court judges, staff recover from Covid-19

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – The recovery rate among the coronavirus (COVID-19) infected lower court judges and staff has gone up to 66 percent, more than eight percent higher than the national recovery rate.

According to a virtual media briefing of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday, 57.47 percent patients have recovered, while 1.32 percent died so far since the first COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.

The law ministry monitoring desk said 0.57 percent of the Covid-19 patients among the lower court judges and employees died so far.

“A total of 350 lower court judges and employees have been infected by the virus till Saturday, of which 73 were judges,” law ministry monitoring desk coordinator Dr Sheikh Golam Mahbub said.

Of the 350 infected persons, 231, including 46 judges, have recovered so far.

“Currently, 27 lower court judges are under treatment. Of them, 25 are taking treatment in their respective homes and two are in hospital. Some 102 lower court employees are also under treatment right now,” Dr Mahbub, also a deputy secretary, added.

Law Minister Anisul Huq is monitoring the report of the monitoring desk daily and giving necessary instructions as Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar has been informing him about the daily updates, the desk coordinator further said.
