Long gap from cricket won’t be problematic: Mominul

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2020 (BSS)-Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque dismissed the notion of ‘rustiness’ due to the COVID-19 forced long hiatus from the cricket by stating that they would get enough opportunity for practicing and playing practice match to shed off any rust.

“I think we’ll get enough time to prepare us, when we’ll go to play any International match. I believe we’ll get enough time to practice and enough practice matches to quell any rustiness,” Mominul said here today.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) currently is in talk with the Sri Lanka to finalize a tour there in October-November which is likely to be consisted with three Tests and three T20 Internationals.

Bangladesh was originally scheduled to play a three-match Test series in August, which is the part of ICC, but the tour was postponed due to the COVID-19, a deadly virus that stranded the world.

However, the postponement of Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup opened a new window for the tour and this time BCB wanted to add three T20s also with three-match Test series, to which, the Sri Lanka Cricket is yet to confirm.

The BCB is yet to take any decision on conditioning camp for the tour, for which they would have to leave the country in late September but they arranged individual training programme for the players.

Since High Performance team’s Sri Lanka tour coincides with the national team, Bangladesh mainly emphasized on arranging practice matches between those two teams in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka earlier reportedly told Bangladesh that they can’t give them any team to have practice.

Mominul however doesn’t have any idea to how everything will be finalized but he is desperate to get back to the cricket as early as possible.

“We have been away from the cricket for the last four/five months. Really missing the cricket,” he said.

“We saw cricket had already made a comeback with the likes of West Indies, England, Pakistan playing. When we saw them playing in Television, we really miss cricket. Hopefully we’ll comeback to the cricket very soon. We have Test match ahead and we are now prepared to have best preparation for that. Hopefully everything will be okay,” he concluded.
