Programmes taken to observe National Mourning Day in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 8, 2020 (BSS)- District Administration has taken up various
programmes to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15, the 45th
martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation and Architect of sovereign
Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with due respect and honor.

In this regard, a preparatory meeting organised by the district
administration was held at the conference room of district collectorate
building of the town on Thursday with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin in
the chair.

The programmes include hoisting of National flag at half-mast at all
government, semi government, autonomous and private buildings, placing floral
wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, bringing out
mourning procession, arrangement of art competition of the children and prize
distribution to the winners at Zila Shishu Academy (ZSA).

The programmes also include rendering songs, reciting poems, holding doa
and milad mahfil, arrangement of special prayers and munajat at all mosques,
temples and churches and other religious organizations, holding blood
donation programme and health camp by Health Department and screening film
and documentary on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at important places by
the District Information Office.

Improved diets will be served to the inmates of district jail, orphanages
and shishu paribars on the day.

Superintendent of Police Towhidul islam, Civil Surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif,
General Secretary of district unit Bangladesh Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique
and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon
addressed the meeting, among others.

The speakers said the August 15, 1975 is regarded as a shameful chapter in
the history of Bengali nation as on this day the undisputed leader
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members were brutally
assassinated at his own residence by a group of disgruntled army officers.
Bangabandhu’s two daughters Sheikh Hasina (now Prime Minister) and Sheikh
Rehena survived as they were abroad at that time, they added.

Abdul Matin also sought blessing of the Almighty Allah for peace of the
departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other family members
and relatives who were assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in
1975.

All district and upazila level officials, political leaders of district AL
and its front organisations, public representatives, social workers and
members of civil society including the journalists of print and electronic
media attended the meeting.

Apart from it, the AL, district unit and its associate organisations also
observed the day amid different programmes.
