62.70pc COVID-19 patients cured in Khulna division

KHULNA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – In spite of increasing trend in the daily number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in recent weeks, the recovery rate also rises and currently stands at 62.70 percent in the division.

“A total of 8,301 COVID-19 patients healed till Monday out of total 13,239 infected patients and the recovery rate stands at 62.70 percent,” Divisional Director (Health) in Khulna division Dr. Rasheda Sultana told BSS today.

The total 8,301 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,860 in Khulna, 1,294 in Kushtia, 1175 in Jashore, 557 in Narail, 474 in Bagerhat, 498 in Satkhira, 586 in Jhenaidah, 358 in Magura, 374 in Chuadanga and 125 in Meherpur districts.

Talking to BSS, Assistant Director (Health) Dr. Ferdoushi Akter said 223 more COVID-19 infected patients recovered in last 24 hours till today noon raising their total number to 8,301 in all ten districts of the division.

Health officials said the total number of infected patients climbed to 13,239 as 421 new people were reported positive after testing 582 collected samples at three COVID-19 laboratories in the division last 24 hour till today’s noon.

Of the newly detected COVID-19 patients, 92 are in Kushtia, 78 in Khulna, 76 in Jashore, 71 in Chuadanga, 36 in Jhenaidah, 31 in Magura, 21 in Narail, 12 in Satkhira and 3 in Meherpur districts in the division.

Following detection of new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas in the division were placed on 14-day lockdown according to the health safety guidelines.

Dr Ferdousi said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

She said all the positive cases for COVID-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 13,300 others are being monitored in isolation units in different hospitals under institutional supervision and another 8,531 were released.

The district-wise break-up of the patients stands at 4,553 in Khulna, 2013 in Jashore, 1,863 in Kushtia, 1047 in Jhenaidah, 917 in Narail, 783 in Satkhira,
751 in Chuadanga, 637 in Bagerhat, 527 in Magura and 209 in Meherpur districts.

“Among the total 13,239 coronavirus infected persons, 1,350 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 8,301 have recovered and 229 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi said.

With the three more deaths including two in Chuadanga and one in Kushtia, the total number of fatalities now reached 229 in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities remains at 70 in Khulna, 36 in Kushtia, 29 in Jashore, 22 in Satkhira, 17 in Jhenaidah, 15 in Bagerhat,13 in Chuadanga, 12 in Narail, eight in Magura and seven in Meherpur districts in the division”, she added.
Currently, the fatality rate among the total 13,239 Covid-19 patients stands at little over 1.73 percent in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said comprehensive steps have been taken to inspire the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread and provide health services to the infected patients to face the situation.

She added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing as these are being adjudged as important means of containing the community transmission of the lethalirus.

She called upon everyone for wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and abiding by all health directives set by government to prevent further community transmission of COVID-19 infection in the division.
