Sheikh Kamal instills life into sports, cultural activities: Khaleque

KHULNA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Khulna city Talukder Abdul Khaleque has said Sheikh Kamal was a great political and sports organizer who infused his life into social, cultural and sports activities.

“Sheikh Kamal led a very ordinary life, for his virtue, he is immortal to us. He was well behaved, mixed with everyone…Those had spent a little time with him, still recall his memories,” Talukder Khaleque said this while presiding over a commemoration meeting marking the 71st birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, organized by Khulna city and district units of Awami League at the party office on Wednesday.

Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, one of the prominent organizers of the Liberation War and a noted sports and cultural personality, was born at Tunigipara village under the then Gopalganj subdivision in 1949.

Lawmaker of Khulna-6 constituency Akteruzzaman Babu, general secretaries of city and district units Awami League MDA Babul Rana and advocate Sujit Adhikari, ex-vice president of district AL advocate Kazi Badsha, among others, addressed the meeting.

Former office secretary of city unit AL Md Munsi Mahbub Alam Sohag moderated the meeting.

Later, a milad and doa mahfil and special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Kamal as well as Bangabandhu and his family members who was assassinated on August 15, 1975.

Earlier, Awami League (AL), Jubo League, Sramik League and different sports and social-cultural organizations took elaborate programmes to mark the 71st birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal.

The programmes included paying tributes by placing wreaths at Sheikh Kamal’s portrait, daylong recitation from the holy Quran, commemoration on his colorful life and the doa-mahfil maintaining social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
