COVID-19 cases in Rangpur division climb to 6,480

RANGPUR, Aug 3, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases climbed to 6,480 in Rangpur division as 110 new patients were reported on Sunday from two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur in the division.

Health officials said the 110 new patients were reported after diagnosing a total of 376 collected samples of suspected coronavirus patents from all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“With the report of 110 new patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 6,480 in Rangpur division till Sunday night,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 6,480 patients currently stands at 1,729 in Rangpur, 340 in Panchagarh, 668 in Nilphamari, 406 in Lalmonirhat, 512 in Kurigram, 413 in Thakurgaon, 1,744 in Dinajpur and 668 in Gaibandha.

“Since the beginning, the number of recovered patients rose to 4,408 with the healing of 97 more people on Sunday at the recovery rate of around 68.02 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddique said.

The 4,408 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,340 of Rangpur, 206 of Panchagarh, 600 of Nilphamari, 238 of Lalmonirhat, 270 of Kurigram, 249 of Thakurgaon, 1,174 of Dinajpur and 331 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said 269 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 399 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Since the beginning, a total of 61,559 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 56,998 released and 4,561 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in all eight districts of the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 41,225 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 6,480 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of over 15.71 percent,” Dr. Khan said.

With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Sunday from Gaibandha and Dinajpur raising the total number of fatalities to 110 with the casualty rate of over 1.69 percent in the division.

The district-wise break up of the total 110 fatalities stands at 31 in Rangpur, 38 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, six each in Kurigram and Thakurgaon, five in Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat districts.

Among the total 6,480 COVID-19 patients, 209 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 4,408 recovered patients and 110 deaths while 1,753 remaining in home isolations in the division.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today told BSS that a limited scale community transmission of the deadly virus continues at places in Rangpur division.

He called upon everyone for wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and abiding by all health directives of the government to prevent further community transmission of COVID-19 infection in the division.
