DHAKA, July 31, 2020 (BSS) – Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the city cattle markets see low sale and fewer prices of sacrificial animals, making traders and sellers, who came here from different parts of the country in hope of selling quadrupeds in high price, frustrated.

The gathering of the buyers were found a little bit rising at different cattle markets in the city but the cattle traders have plunge into frustration as they are not getting expected price of their sacrificial animals.

The buyers are appearing at the city’s cattle markets…but selling of the sacrificial animals is comparatively low than the previous years. The sellers are not getting expected price as they blamed the onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic couple with long term flood in different regions of the country for not being present of buyers in large at cattle markets, putting an impact on their earnings.

“I have sold only six animals in last three days as I brought 18 cattle at Gopibagh Balur Math cattle market, adjacent to Kamalapur stadium,”said a cattle trader Kauser Mia. Even the selling price of these animals was not so expected, he said.

“Only sixty-nine cattle were sold till 2 pm on Thursday at the Gopibagh makeshift cattle market while the leasing price of the hat was Taka 2.50 crore, highest among all the makeshift hats in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area,” sources said.
While visiting the Uttar Shahjahanpur Maitri Sangha Math at 3.30pm on Thursday, the same scenario was found at the hat as huge number of cattle was seen in the markets in the DSCC area but the turnout of the buyers was very few.

Most of the customers were seen preferring to buy small and medium size cattle with price range between Taka 60,000 to Taka 90,000.

People, who once bought cattle with a price of Taka one lakh, now prefer to buy cattle within the price between Taka 70,000-80,000, said a trader M Motaleb at Uttar Shahjahanpur makeshift cattle market.

Chief State Officer of the DSCC Rasel Sabrin said “we are operating mobile court in every hat and even carrying out campaign so that sellers and buyers follow the health guidelines amid the present COVID-19 pandemic.”
Meanwhile, people are gathering at city’s Gabtoli cattle market in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) for buying the sacrificial animals but the selling spree is not up as the cattle traders are in dismay for low selling.

“I have brought a total of 13 local bulls which price is between Taka 90,000 to 1, 20,000 each, but the buyers are bargaining with very low price,” said another cattle trader Mamun Sheikh of Kawlar hat.
