19 lakh families get 19,005 tonnes of VGF rice in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 31, 2020 (BSS) – Over 19 lakh poor and distressed families of all eight districts in Rangpur division have received a record quantity of 19,005 tonnes of rice under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme before the Eid-ul-Azha.

The government completed distribution of the special VGF rice on Thursday to assist them in celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic amid flood situation in the division.

“We completed distribution of VGF rice with 10 kg among each of the selected card-holder beneficiary families on Thursday ensuring transparency,” Additional Divisional Commission (General) Md. Zakir Hossain told BSS today.

Earlier, the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management had allocated the record quantity of rice for distribution among selected VGF card holder families in all eight districts of the division.

The VGF rice was distributed among the beneficiary families of all 31 municipalities and 58 upazilas in eight districts of the division.

“Besides, we distributed 20,273 tonnes of rice and over Taka 12.31 crore among 19.78 lakh jobless, distressed and needy families of all eight districts in the division during the COVID-19 pandemic till Thursday,” Zakir added.

Talking to BSS, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) ATM Akhteruzzaman said distribution of 4,229.15 tonnes of VGF rice allocated by the government among 4,22,915 distressed families of the district completed on Thursday.

Gaibandha DRRO Moazzem Hossain said distribution of 1,659.70 tonnes of VGF rice allocated by the government among 1,65,970 card holder poor and distressed families completed in the district.

Kurigram DRRO Abdul Hye Sarker said 4,285.25 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among 4,28,525 card-holder families in the district to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity despite flood situation amid CVID-19 pandemic.

DRRO of Dinajpur Akram Hossain said distribution of 1,927.33 tonnes of VGF rice was completed among 1,91,733 card-holder beneficiary families across the district on Thursday.

Acting Lalmonirhat DRRO Shammi Kaiser said 676.01 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among 67,601 card-holder families of the district to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity.

Thakurgaon DRRO Abul Asad Miah said distribution of 919.91 tonnes of special VGF rice was completed among 91,991 card-holder distressed families of the district on Thursday.

DRRO of Nilphamari SA Hayat said distribution of 4,043.15 tonnes of VGF rice was completed among 4,04,315 card-holder beneficiary families of the district.

Acting Panchagarh DRRO Mohammad Alauddin said 1,172.81 tonnes of VGF rice was distributed among 1,17.281 card-holder families of the district by Thursday to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity.

Talking to BSS today, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Rangpur Sadar upazila said distribution of 52.67 tonnes of VGF rice among 5,267 card holder poor families was completed yesterday.

Chairman of Saddyapuskorini union in Rangpur Sadar upazila Sohel Rana said he completed distribution of 62.90 tonnes of special VGF rice among 6,290 poor and distressed families of his union by Thursday.

Chairman of Haridebpur union parishad in Rangpur Sadar upazila Iqbal Hossain said he completed distribution of 58.88 tonnes of VGF rice among 5,888 card-holder families of his union yesterday.

Talking to BSS, beneficiaries Abdus Sattar, Safura Begum, Osheda Begum and Rashedul Islam of Chandanpat union expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting 10 kg of VGF rice each before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
