Standing by people in miseries is AL’s tradition: Quader

DHAKA, July 30, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said it has been his party’s tradition for over seven decades since its inception to stand beside the people with humanitarian assistance during their miseries.

“Awami League leaders and workers are continuing their humanitarian supports to people during coronavirus crisis, cyclone Amphan and the current flood situation. We always stand by people in every disaster and crisis period of the country as like as we have role in its every achievement,” he said.

Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, said this joining a function through videoconferencing from his official residence to hand over coronavirus (Covid-19) protective equipment and dry foods for flood victims for distribution under the initiative of the AL relief and social welfare sub-committee at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office.

Describing the role of AL in some recent crisis periods, Quader said the leaders and workers of the party and associate and like-minded bodies provided foods, cash money, healthcare facilities and safety equipment in the cyclone Amphan-hit areas.

Mentioning that the country’s one-third low-lying areas have been inundated by the flood, the AL general secretary said the party leaders and workers have been extending humanitarian supports to the victims by providing relief goods, other necessaries and even reaching cooked foods to the marooned people in remote areas.

Thus the Awami League, a political party having long history and heritage, has turned into a place of trust and aspiration to the people and it will make its all-out efforts in the days to come to keep its glorious tradition, he added.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been constantly monitoring the Covid-19 and flood situations and giving directives since the outset as the government is making its all-out strides to contain the spread of the deadly virus and provide necessary healthcare to safeguard the people inspire of having various limitations.

Quader said the drive against irregularities and corruption has already been begun in the health sector and the lack of coordination has reduced which further strengthened the people’s trust in the Awami League government because of its recent steps.

The minister said though the viral transmission is under quite control compared to other countries because of the government’s restless efforts, humanitarian leadership and efficiency, there is no scope to have complacence as the situation can deteriorate at any moment.

AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultuna and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan were present, among others.
