Flood situation unchanged in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, July 30, 2020 (BSS) – The overall flood situation has remained unchanged in the district as the Jamuna and the Kaliganga are in falling trend.

Local office of Water Development Board sources said water levels in Jamuna and Kaliganga have decreased slightly in the past 24 hours and forecasted the falling trend of the two river may continue.

According to the Manikganj district administration, a total of 7.645
kilometer areas of Daulatpur, Harirampur, Shibalaya, Ghior and Saturia
Upazila were eroded due to the overflowing of Jamuna and Kaliganga rivers.

A total of 70,917 families in the district were marooned by flood water and the crops of 31,577 hectares were inundated.

District Relief and Disaster Management office sources said 300 tonnes
of rice Taka 3, 50, 000, dry food of 3,300 packets, baby food of
Taka 1,50,000 and cow fodder of Taka. 8,00,000 were distributed in the
flood affected areas in the district. Besides, 50 tonnes of G R rice,
Taka 3,00,000, dry food of 700 , baby food of Tk.50,000 and Cow fodder
of Tk. 1,00,000 have kept stock for the people in flood-hit areas in the district,

They said a total of 910 families with 1180 domestic animals
have been shifted to 52 shelter centers in the district and 195 shelter centers have kept ready for the flood victims in the
district.
