Corona patients get rid of oxygen crisisin Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, July 30, 2020 (BSS) – Corona patients in Chattogram suffering from severe respiratory problems will no longer have to go through oxygen crisis as currently there are 150 high-flow nasal canola in the public and private hospitals.

Currently, there are 150 high flow nasal canola in Chattogram while the number of the medical equipment was only one till May 28.

Of the high flow nasal canola, 40are in Chattogram Medical College Hospital, 40 in Chattogram Ma-Shisu Hospital, 20 in General Hospital and 14 in Chattogram Field Hospital.

Talking to doctors and relatives of patients in Chattogram, it is learned that even a month and a half ago, no hospital could provide adequate oxygen flow to the corona patients at their critical moment.

Many people then complained that their relatives had to die due to oxygen crisis.

Considering the severe crisis, various industrial families in the region have worked in collaboration with the government to resolve the problem.

The Corona Coordinating Committee has met in stages and sent recommendations to different government departments to take necessary steps for Chattogram.

Sources at coordinating committee said they had tried to get consent from the higher echelons of the government with the help of Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

For this reason, Dr Hasan Mahmud was invited in almost every meeting of the coordination committee so that these shortcomings could be easily noticed by him.

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and Deputy Education Minister Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfelare also playing important rolein this regard.

Meanwhile, Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has taken bold and timely steps since the beginning of the coronavirus.

With government funding of around Tk 80 lakh, acentral oxygen plant was set up at General Hospital on July 25.

A central oxygen line has also been set up at the hospital to supply oxygen to the plant with the financial support of S Alam Group.

Once the plant with a capacity of 13,000 liters of liquid oxygen is filled, oxygen can be supplied continuously for 2-3 weeks at normal time.A 10-bed ICU with ventilator has also been added to the hospital.

A day later, a Central Oxygen Plant was added to the Chattogram Corona Isolation Centre at Chattogram Community Centre in Halishahar.

Dr Minhazur Rahman, central organising secretary of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad and Divisional Coordinator of the Corona Monitoring Cell, told BSS that Chattogram got ready to deal with Corona in a very short time with the concerted efforts of Information Minister, Land Minister, Deputy Minister of Education, Mayor, wealthy individuals, leaders of political parties and administration.

Dr Bidyut Barua, CEO of Chattogram Field Hospital, said they have 14 nasal canola plants there.

“But now there are no patients to use these canola,” he said.
