Govt with all-out measures ready to face flood situation: Palak

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said the government has the capacity to face any disaster, including floods.

Palak said this while inspecting the repair works of damaged Kalkali embankment and distributing humanitarian aid to flood-affected people at Singra upazila of Chalanbeel.

He said, “Like other countries of the world, Bangladesh is facing the coronavirus crisis, but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s humanitarian work in helping people of all walks of life has been praised all over the world.”

Similarly, the government led by Sheikh Hasina will also be able to control the flood situation of the country, he added.

He continued, “Shelter centres have been opened at different parts of the country for flood-affected people. Meals have been arranged for the people, who staying in the centres. They will stay there until the water recedes.”

In addition to food, water purification tablets are also being provided in the shelter centres, he said, adding “If anyone is ill, treatment will also be provided to them”.

Necessary boats are being provided for the people to travel in the flood-affected areas. Mobile toilets are also being set up for them.

The state minister further said that a list of affected farmers, fishermen and homeless people is being prepared for rehabilitation in the post-flood period.

According to the capacity of the government, all the victims will be brought under rehabilitation activities, Palak added.

Among others, Co-president of Upazila Awami League Abu Bakkar Siddique Rocky, Chairman of Kalam Union Parishad Moinul Haque Chunnu, General Secretary of the union parishad Awami League Md. Alauddin Munshi and other party leaders and workers were present at the programmes.
