Razzaque asks officials to work for reducing ongoing flood-losses

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS)- Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque today gave strict instructions to the officials concerned to be active in rehabilitating the flood-hit farmers and dealing with the damage caused by the ongoing flood in the country.

“The extent of losses in agriculture is increasing. Once the flood water goes down, we have to start the work for rehabilitating agriculture sector and reducing losses of flood on an emergency basis,” he said.

The minister was speaking at the virtual signing ceremony of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) between the Ministry of Agriculture and its 17 subsidiary agencies for financial year 2020-21 from his official residence here, a release said.

He said all types of leave of all agriculture related officials and employees have already been canceled so that they can work to reduce the damage caused by the floods.

He said 12 committees have been formed to expedite, supervise and coordinate various incentive activities including seeds and fertilizers to compensate the farmers of 28 districts affected by the floods.

With the help of agricultural officials in the flood-hit areas, the committee members have been asked to monitor all field-level activities closely from the day after Eid holding regular online meetings and conducting on-the-spot inspections, he added.

He also underscored the need of taking of extensive preparations in advance for the Rabi season.

Agriculture Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman presided over the meeting while Additional Secretary of the concerned ministry (Administration) Arifur Rahman Apu moderated it.
