DOE fines Navana Construction Tk 1 lakh

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – Department of Environment (DOE) has fined Navana Construction Limited Taka 1 lakh for not complying with the conditions of environmental clearance in excavating roads for implementing a project of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA).

DOE Director (monitoring and enforcement) Begum Rubina Ferdoushi today fined the contraction firm when she was visiting the site of Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project (Agargaon part) front side road of both Planning Commission and Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), said a press release.

Rubina found that the firm has excavated the road and kept the soil in an uncovered state without complying with the conditions of environmental clearance, which has created water logging causing damage to the environment and ecology.

She was visiting the DWASA project site as a part of environment protection activities in coordination with DOE’s monitoring and enforcement cell and Dhaka city office as per the directive of DOE director general (DG), the release said.

DOE Executive Magistrate Kazi Tamzid Ahmed, Assistant Director Md Saiful Asrab and Inspector Md Mirza Asadul Kibria took part in the site visit, among others.
