Govt distributes record 19,005 tonnes of VGF rice in Rangpur div

RANGPUR, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – The government is distributing a record quantity of 19,005 tonnes rice among over 19 lakh distressed families under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to assist them in celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

Officials said distribution of the VGF rice alongside rice and money as general relief with other essentials are greatly assisting the distressed and jobless people in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic amid flood situation in the division.

“Each selected card-holder family is getting 10 kg of VGF rice amid strict supervision to ensure complete transparency,” Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain told BSS this afternoon.

The government through the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management has allocated the record quantity of rice for distribution among selected VGF card holder families in all eight districts of the division.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local union parishads, municipalities, public representatives and union level committees prepared lists of beneficiary families and distributed cards among them before distribution of the VGF rice.

“The distribution process of the special VGF rice will complete by tomorrow (Thursday) everywhere in all 31 municipalities and 58 upazilas of eight districts in Rangpur division,” Hossain added.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) ATM Akhteruzzaman said the government has 4,229.15 tonnes of VGF rice for distribution among 4,22,915 distressed families of the district.

“Distribution of the special VGF rice is nearing completion with assistance of the local public representatives at the union and ward levels in all eight upazilas and three municipalities of the district,” Akhteruzzaman added.

Gaibandha DRRO Moazzem Hossain said distribution of 1,659.70 tonnes of VGF rice allocated by the government continues in full swing among 1,65,970 card holder poor and distressed families of seven upazilas and four municipalities in the district.

Kurigram DRRO Abdul Hye Sarker said 4,285.25 tonnes of VGF rice is being distributed among 4,28,525 card-holder families of nine upazilas and three municipalities in Kurigram to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity despite flood situation.

DRRO of Dinajpur Md. Akram Hossain said distribution of 1,927.33 tonnes of VGF rice allocated by the government continues among 1,91,733 card-holder beneficiary families of all 13 upazilas and nine municipalities of the district.

Lalmonirhat DRRO Shammi Kaiser said 676.01 tonnes of VGF rice is being distributed among 67,601 card-holder families of five upazilas and two municipalities in the district to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity.

DRRO of Thakurgaon Abul Asad Miah said distribution of 919.91 tonnes of VGF rice among 91,991 card-holder distressed families of all five upazilas and three municipalities continues in full swing in the district.

DRRO of Nilphamari SA Hayat said distribution of 4,043.15 tonnes of VGF rice allocated by the government continues among 4,04,315 card-holder beneficiary families of all six upazilas and four municipalities in the district.

Panchagarh DRRO Mohammad Alauddin said 1,172.81 tonnes of VGF rice is being distributed among 1,17.281 card-holder families of five upazilas and three municipalities in the district to assist them in celebrating the Eid-Azha festivity.

Talking to BSS today, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Rangpur Sadar upazila said distribution of allocated 52.67 tonnes of VGF rice among 5,267 card holder poor families would complete by Thursday afternoon.

After getting 10 kg of VGF rice each today, beneficiaries Ammajan and Sefar Uddin of village Puthimari and Safura of village Haripur of the union at Chandanpat union parishad premises, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to assist them.
