Govt distributes 7,630 MT rice among flood affected people

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 7,630 tonnes of rice has so far been distributed among the flood affected people across the country.

“The government has allocated 12,710 tonnes of rice and so far distributed a total of 7,630 tonnes among the flood hit people in 31 districts across the country,” said an official release here today.

The government has also distributed Taka 2,04,45,200 cash against the total allocation of Taka 3,36.50,000 among the flood victims and Taka 35.94 lakh also has been given for purchasing baby food till July 28, it said.

In addition to this, the government has allocated 1,37,000 packets of dry food while 90,812 packets have already been distributed among flood affected people.

The government has opened 1,590 shelter centers in the flood prone areas where 89,300 people have taken refuges.

In the flood affected district, a total of 901 medical teams have been formed where 385 of them are functioning.

The flood affected districts are Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Kishorganj, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Jamalpur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogra, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Hobiganj and Sunamganj.

A total of 41 people so far died during the flood. Of them, 15 are in Jamalpur, 1 in Lalmonirhat, 3 in Sunamganj, 1in Sylhet, 9 in Kurigram, 4 in Tangail, 2 in Manikganj, 1 in Gaibandha as well as 2 each in Naogaon and Sirajganj.
