LGD takes programmes for National Mourning Day

DHAKA, July 27, 2020 (BSS) – The Local Government Division (LGD) has drawn up programmes in a limited scale marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day-2020 to be observed on August 15.

All offices and organizations and local government institutions under the LGD will chalk out their respective programmes including discussions and doa mahfil on virtual media in light with the national programmes for the mourning day maintaining social distancing rules and health guidelines in the wake of the deadly novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The programmes were finalized today at a meeting at the LGD at the Secretariat with its senior secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed in the chair in absence of LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam as he joined a namaz-e-janaza and burial of the president of Laksham upazila unit of Awami League in Cumilla, said a press release.

All city corporations, zila and upazila parishads, municipalities and union parishads have been asked to take part in the mourning day programmes to be arranged nationally by district and upazila administrations.

The LGD will arrange programmes including paying of tributes to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait on the Bangabandhu Museum premises and holding discussions and doa mahfil on virtual platforms on August 15.

All concerned have been asked to wear black badges with the beginning of the month of mourning on August 1 recalling the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15 and wear coat-pins marking the Mujib Year, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.
