43 more centralized oxygen supply to be set up at hospitals

DHAKA, July 27, 2020 (BSS) – With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing sharply in the country, the government is going to set up centralised oxygen supply system in 43 more public hospitals to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply to patients.

“A total of 22 public hospitals had centralised oxygen supply system before the Covid-19 hit the country in March. The system was installed in six more hospitals after the pandemic started and 43 more liquid tanks are under construction,” Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Nasima Sultana said.

She disclosed the information at the DGHS regular health bulletin here today.

Recently, the National Electro-Medical Equipment Maintenance Workshop and Training Centre (NEMEW) has installed six liquid oxygen tanks in public hospitals.

The Department of Health Engineering also installed an oxygen tank at a private hospital.

Liquid oxygen tanks are being constructed at 20 companies under NEMEW, Prof Nasima said adding, construction of liquid oxygen tanks is underway at 23 institutions through the Department of Health Engineering.

Prof Nasima said currently the number of oxygen cylinders in the country is 12,341. The number of high flow nasal cannula is 305 and oxygen concentration is 112.
