COVID-19 cases climb to 5,690 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 27, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases claimed to 5,690 as 142 new patients were reported in a day after testing their samples on Sunday at the two laboratories in Rangpur division.

“A high number of 142 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed after testing 470 collected samples from all eight districts of the division on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today. The district-wise break up of the total 5,690 patients currently stands at 1,627 in Rangpur, 269 in Panchagarh, 626 in Nilphamari, 345 in Lalmonirhat, 437 in Kurigram, 335 in Thakurgaon, 1,437 in Dinajpur and 614 in Gaibandha of the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the number of recovered patients also rose to 3,790 with the healing of the highest number of 139 more people in a day on Sunday in the division.

“Currently, the recovery rate among the total 5,690 COVID-19 patients stands at around 66.61 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

The 3,790 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,180 of Rangpur, 159 of Panchagarh, 565 of Nilphamari, 212 of Lalmonirhat, 224 of Kurigram, 237 of Thakurgaon, 887 of Dinajpur and 326 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities rose to 103 in the division with three more deaths reported from Rangpur and Dinajpur on Sunday.

Among the 103 deceased people, 30 died in Rangpur, 33 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, six each in Kurigram and Thakurgaon, four in Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 5,690 COVID-19 patients now stands at around 1.81 percent in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 5,690 COVID-19 patients, 186 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 3,790 recovered patients and 103 deaths while 1,611 remaining in home isolations in the division.

“Since the beginning, we have tested a total of 38,311 collected samples of Rangpur division till Sunday night, and of them, 5,690 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 14.85 percent,” he said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 437 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 507 others released in the division.

A total of 58,982 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 53,268 released and 5,714 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.

“Currently, the government hospitals and health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the situation in the division,” Dr. Khan added. Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said all of the authorities concerned are working for providing health services to the infected patients.

“We have put highest efforts on inspiring the people in abiding by health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 both in urban and rural areas of the division,” Lyzu added.
