Experienced overseas returnees deserve employment on priority basis: Imran

DHAKA, July 26, 2020 (BSS)- Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed today said that experienced workers, who have returned home from foreign countries, deserve to be employed on priority basis both at home and abroad.

He made the remark while addressing the 2nd virtual meeting of the National Manpower-Immigration Forum at his office at Probashi Kallyan Bhaban in city’s Eskaton area.

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment organized the virtual meeting while Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Dr Ahmed Munirush Salehin moderated it, a press release said.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted various initiatives taken by the government for the overall welfare of expatriate workers especially life insurance subsidies for them, financial assistance for sending their children to schools abroad and providing incentives at the rate of 2 percent on remittances.

He also called upon all stakeholders to work together to ensure smooth and disciplined labor migration.

The minister said that in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, emergency food and financial assistance have been provided to the affected expatriate workers and their families living in the country have been brought under the social safety net programme.

Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) President Benazir Ahmed, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training(BMET) Director General Md Shamsul Alam and Director General of Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Md Hamidur Rahman also spoke on the occasion, among others.
