One held with 32 gold bars at Dhaka Airport

DHAKA, July 25, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka Customs has detained a passenger with 32 gold bars weighing 5.2 kilograms from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital today.

The arrestee was identified as- Ismail Hossain Sarkar , a passenger of flight number BG-4136 from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Dhaka Customs House Assistant Commissioner (Preventive Team) Solaiman Hossain told BSS that the market value of the seized gold is about 3 crore 12 lakh 20 thousand taka.

According to Shahjalal Airport and Dhaka Customs House sources, Ismail got off the Bangladesh Biman plane at around 12 noon today.

Being secretly informed, the members of the preventive team of Dhaka Customs House increased surveillance at various points of the airport.

Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive) Mohammad Marufur Rahman said that the passenger was leaving the Green Channel area after getting off of the plane.

He was challenged as his movements seem suspicious.

The bars were seized from his possession after scanning and searching his bag, said the official.

The bars were hidden in a special manner inside a juicer machine and a sound system, he said.

During the primary interrogation, Ismail has admitted the truth of being involved with the incident.

Filing of a case against him with the Airport Police Station under the Gold Smuggling and Customs Act is underway, said the official.
