Jute harvesting goes on in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, July 25, 2020 (BSS) – Farmers in the district are passing busy time with harvesting jute as well as its rotting processing with a prediction of better yield.

At present, most of the growers along with their family members are very much engaged in harvesting, decomposing, segregating and selling activities of jute.

Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting a bumper yield of jute this year.

DAE office sources said a total of 9,450 hectares of land were brought under jute cultivation in five upazilas of the district this year with the production target of 1,02,000 bells of jute.

Deben Chandra, a farmer of Sabouspara village under Debiganj upazila, said he cultivated jute on two bighas of land and after harvesting he got 16 mounds of jute. From his production Deben earned Taka 17000 after meeting all expenditure.

Deputy Director of DAE Abu Hanif said “We have given quality seeds and fertilizers to the farmers at a free of cost for boosting the jute production.
