2 drug dealers killed in Teknaf gunfight

DHAKA, July 25, 2020 (BSS) –Two drug dealers were killed in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Friday night.

Three BGB members were injured in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam, 35, son of Syed Ahmed of Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia and Md Ferdous, 30, son of Habib Ullah of the same camp.

BGB sources said, the border guards got information of a large consignment of drugs from Myanmar at the Naf River border near the Mouchani Churikhyal area of Teknaf. A BGB team went there and challenge some people. At one stage, the drug dealers fired at the BGB. Three BGB members were injured.

The drug dealers fled when the BGB fired back in self-defence. After rescuing the two victims from the spot, BGB took them to the Upazila Health Complex and then sent them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. They died after being taken there.

The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue.

Besides, 210,000 pieces of yaba tablets, a locally made weapon, one round of ammunition, and a sharp sword were recovered from the spot.

Legal actions have been taken in this regard, BGB sources added.
