CHATTOGRAM, July 24, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud called deceased Rangunia Upazila Chairman Alhaj Khalilur Rahman Chowdhury a man with sacrificing attitude, saying he was a role model in society.

The minister said in spite of being upazila chairman, municipality mayor and upazila AL president for more than last 15 years, Khalilur Rahman’s tin shed house hasn’t been changed.

“Although many buildings have been constructed in the country in the last 15 years, but Khalilur Rahman’s tin shed house remains the same what was there forty years ago,” he said.

The information minister made the remarks ahead of namaz-e-janaza of Khalilur Rahman on Thursday night.

Hasan said the late Khalilur Rahman was an activist of Bangabandhu and an organizer of the liberation war.

The minister choked with emotion said, “I personally lost a guardian at his death and we lost such a guardian to whom people of all faiths could go”.

He said AL has survived fighting against all sorts of odd and adverse situations under the leadership of Bangabandhu and his worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina because it has dedicated grassroots leaders like Khalilur Rahman Chowdhury.

He, however, said Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina has been working for welfare of people of the country.

Seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Khalilur Rahman, the information minister said he (Khalilur Rahman) was a respected and accepted leader by all in Rangunia. “That’s why, he was elected unopposed. He was the oldest upazila chairman in the country. He was also an oldest mayor of municipality in country,” Hasan said.

Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Masudur Rahman, Rangunia Municipality Mayor Alhaj Shahjahan Sikder, District Council Member Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, Upazila Vice Chairman Shafiqul Islam, Chattogram North District AL leaders Idris Azgar and Nazrul Islam Talukder, Rangunia Upazila AL general secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder, former organizing secretary Akhter Hossain Khan, organizing secretary and late Khalilur Rahman’s son Ariful Islam Chowdhury as well as religious affairs secretary Jasim Uddin Talukder, among others, were present.
